“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” — Mark 16:15
Evangelism is proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ so that people may be saved. The word gospel means “good news.” It is the message that:
- Man was separated from God because of sin (Romans 5:12)
- God sent His Son Jesus as our Savior (John 3:16)
- Jesus died for our sins and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
- Whoever believes in Him receives eternal life (Romans 10:9–10)
Evangelism is not religion. It is not debate. It is not pressure. It is declaring what Jesus has done. Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation…” Evangelism is sharing the message of salvation in the power of the Holy Spirit.
WHY DO WE DO EVANGELISM?
1. Because Sin Separated Man from God In the beginning, God created man for fellowship (Genesis 1–2). But sin entered the world (Genesis 3), bringing: Separation, Death, Sickness and Darkness. Every person without Christ is separated from God. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
2. Because God Loves the World John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” God’s response to sin was not abandonment — it was redemption. Jesus came as our substitution, our ransom, and our Savior. He gave His life willingly. He rose again in victory. The Gospel is God’s rescue plan.
3. Because People Cannot Be Saved Unless They Hear Romans 10:14 says, “How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? Salvation requires proclamation. If we do not speak, they cannot hear. If they do not hear, they cannot believe. Evangelism is obedience to the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…”
4. Because Heaven Rejoices Over One Soul Luke 15:7 says, “There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents…” Every soul matters to God. Every life is eternal. We evangelize because eternity is real.
THE HEART OF EVANGELISM
Evangelism is not just words — it is a lifestyle. 2 Corinthians 3:2 says, “You are our epistle… known and read by all men.” We must live the Gospel, share the Gospel and demonstrate the Gospel. The message must burn in our hearts. Jeremiah 20:9 says, “His word was in my heart like a burning fire…” The Gospel carries power. We simply carry the message.
River Church WPB is committed to building a culture of evangelism — reaching every person in our community with the Good News. Our goal in 2026 is to reach 30,000 souls with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
