“Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” — John 16:24
Jesus taught believers to pray to the Father in the Name of Jesus and to expect answers. Prayer is not meant to be empty religious activity — prayer should produce results. God hears and answers faith-filled prayer according to His Word.
KEY PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE PRAYER
1. Pray According to God’s Word
God invites believers to remind Him of His promises.
“Put Me in remembrance…” — Isaiah 43:26
Faith begins where the will of God is known. When we pray according to Scripture, we can stand confidently believing for the answer.
2. Pray With Expectation
Many people pray without expecting anything to happen. Biblical prayer expects God to move. Jesus said:
“If two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done…” — Matthew 18:19
Pray believing that God’s Word is true and that He is faithful to perform it.
3. Stand Firm in Faith
Circumstances may contradict what God promised, but believers must stand their ground in faith. Like Paul declared during the storm:
“I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.” — Acts 27:25
God’s Word never fails.
4. Pray Specifically
Pray for people by name. Pray specifically for salvation, healing, provision, and breakthrough. Jesus taught believers to pray for laborers to reach the lost (Matthew 9:38).
Specific prayers produce specific results.
5. Use Your Authority in Jesus’ Name
Believers have authority through the Name of Jesus over the works of the enemy. We are to resist Satan, stand on God’s promises, and declare victory according to His Word.
6. Angels Minister for Believers
Hebrews 1:14 teaches that angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for the heirs of salvation. As we stand in faith and obey God’s Word, heaven works on behalf of God’s people.
Prayer changes things. God desires His children to pray boldly, confidently, and expectantly. When prayer is rooted in God’s Word and exercised in faith, results will follow.
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” — James 5:16
